Adaptive Hiking

Adaptive Hiking with Freedom Trax

What is Adaptive Hiking?

Adaptive Hiking is a term we developed that is exclusive to individuals with disabilities who want to explore the outdoors. Through our partnership with Freedom Trax we are able to take people, with varying disabilities, out on hiking trails, to the beach, to the snow, and many other places. It gives our clients, our friends, freedom and independence and allows them to get out of the house and into !

What is Freedom Trax?

Freedom Trax is a wheelchair off-road attachment that uses the same technology that tanks use. They allow the user to maneuver over obstacles and glide through almost any terrain so you can get to where you need to go. They turn your standard wheelchair into a motorized all-terrain vehicle.

Who can go on an Adaptive Hike?

With the Freedom Trax, we are able to take people from age 9 to 90 and older (or younger!) out on the Freeom Trax. We can take anywhere from 1 to 4 users out on a beach day or a hike! Not only will we meet you somewhere, but we can come to you, if you need help getting to a beach or hiking destination. We also offer outings for assisted living groups!

Where can I go on an Adaptive Hike?

We can go to different areas of San Luis Obispo County. Some destinations include Pismo Beach, Pismo Preserve, Montana De Oro, Arroyo Grande Parks, Bob Jones Trail, and more! If you have a special place you would like to go, just ask us! The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo has generously opened up their private properties to us. These areas have to be scheduled and pre-approved.

How long does the hike last?

Our excursions can last anywhere from a half or full day, with the full day including a mid-day break with snacks and lunch. These hikes are built for the entire family to enjoy together. We encourage all participants to bring family members, friends, or a caregiver along on the excursion. It really makes the experience that much better.

Can I reserve a Freedom Trax for a special event?

While we provide excursions for participants, we also have the option of lending out a Freedom Trax setup to clients who need to attend a special event, such as a beach wedding, or concert. You can reserve the Freedom Trax through our online booking system.
